Community Health Development

The Community Health Development team strives to promote the health and safety of Platte County. Promoting healthy lifestyles and community improvement through education is an important mission of the Platte County Health Department. Through community partnerships, policy change, advocacy and resources, the team provides many services to the community.

The Community Development team puts a strong emphasis on collaborative efforts to engage stakeholders and members of the community in the assessment process to respond and identify Platte County’s health concerns, mobilize resources and implement solutions to create systemic change.

Childcare Health Consultant Services

We are committed to helping childcare providers offer the best possible care to our community’s children through a variety of programs and services through the Child Care Health Consultation (CCHC) program. The CCHC Program provides safety, social-emotional learning practice, staff training, and health promotion activities.

Services Provided

  • Free clock hours for providers on topics related to the health and safety of children
  • Health promotion classes that are age-appropriate to children in childcare, such as proper handwashing, dental care, nutrition, injury prevention, and social-emotional learning practices
  • Onsite and phone consultations for immunization record reviews, communicable disease questions or concerns.

MCH

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) grant focuses on preventing and reducing the impact of toxic stress while building resilience in adolescents to prevent and reduce intentional substance use and self-harm. Funding supports a variety of activities, including educating community stakeholders on the importance of trauma-sensitive practice, the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the ongoing need to build a trauma-informed community everywhere our kids live, learn and play.

Platte County Health Department utilizes six local coalitions, steering committees, and key stakeholders to review data annually to collaboratively work towards positive outcomes for Platte County youth. Safe Sitter Classes

The Safe Sitter class is open to boys and girls ages 11-13 and prepares these young individuals on how to be the best sitter they can be. Topics covered include child care essentials, preventing injuries & problem behaviors, CPR, basic first aid and choking skills as well as safety and emergency actions.
