COVID Booster Update

Posted on Tuesday September 06, 2022
We have received our first shipment of Pfizer bivalent COVID vaccines. This vaccine is authorized for those aged 12 and above. Appointments will be available beginning Thursday, Sept. 15 at our Parkville office. Those interested in making an appointment can do so by calling 816.587.5998.

At this time, 5-11 years of age are still eligible for their boosters. This affects BOOSTER doses ONLY, primary series vaccines may still be scheduled. The third dose immunocompromised is still acceptable to schedule as well.

Individuals are recommended to get the new bivalent booster if:

  • They are aged 12 and up, AND
  • It has been at least 2 months since their last COVID-19 vaccine dose AND
  • They have completed their primary series*

*Complete primary series include the one dose J&J series or the two dose Moderna, Pfizer, or Novavax series (schedules may differ for those who are immunocompromised).

The new bivalent booster dose is recommended regardless of how many booster doses individuals have had in the past. Per CDC guidance, you are up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccines when you have completed a COVID-19 vaccine primary series and received the most recent booster dose recommended for you by CDC. As a result, individuals who are now eligible for the updated bivalent booster dose are not considered “up-to-date” on their COVID-19 vaccines until they have received it.

Pfizer bivalent boosters are authorized for those 12+ while Moderna bivalent boosters are authorized for those 18+. No bivalent boosters are currently authorized for those under 12.
